In a nutshell, tell me about this blog …

Passionate cooking of real food from a kitchen in the beautiful state of Florida, overlooking Tampa Bay.

Caroline AboutAnything else?

Glad you asked! Caroline’s Family Kitchen is not only where I cook but it is also the name of my blog, where I share my tried and tested recipes for you to enjoy! My wish is to encourage you to cook delicious dishes from scratch, using real food, wholesome ingredients, as close to their natural state as possible. It’s how we used to cook not so long ago before overly profit-driven corporations started to tamper with our food sources. I do not subscribe to any particular health fad and not all recipes will be considered “healthy”. But then again, a few of my recipes are for special occasions. There are also plenty of healthy options. The way I see it, anything you cook at home, from scratch, is most likely going to be healthier and more nutritious than ready-made packaged foods.

Wholesome ingredients? Real food? Isn’t all food real?

By real food I mean good quality fresh ingredients, as close to their natural state as possible. Preferably organic, wild, cage free, grass-fed. I do my best to avoid the use of hydrogenated fats, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup and products with artificial sweeteners, flavorings, colorings, nitrites, nitrates and other nasty preservatives, fillers or GMOs.

What sort of recipes will I find in here?

Delicious dishes my family, friends and I enjoy! I like to think my cooking has a global flair to it! Born and semi-brought up in Colombia, I have also lived in the UK (south of London) where I developed my taste for Indian cuisine (amongst others). Married to my lovely Franco-Scottish husband, my taste buds have evolved to appreciate the delicacies of French cuisine and acquired a taste for Scottish Haggis! A few years of living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland led to my love for all things crabby! Now from the Sunshine State I hope to inspire you to try new recipes or prepare ones long forgotten. I encourage you to share your dishes with family and friends. After all, the enjoyment of a meal is always magnified when shared with those we love!

What about the Family?Family

Ah! The Family is the better half Caroline’s Kitchen. Were it not for my talented and patient husband, I would not be writing this blog today. He’s my very own personal fan and motivator and taster. If it were up to me, he’d also be Chief Photography Officer as I lack the patience and flair he so naturally possesses! Our two boys currently exiting their teenage years are my strongest critics. They keep me challenged to come up with meals they love!  Not an easy task! No, they are not gourmets just yet but they are getting there. It’s a process! What I want more than their appreciation of good food is a love for family meals.

Why aren’t there any advertisements on your site?

I am fortunate in that this blog is my hobby and therefore I can avoid one of my pet-peeves: random advertising when reading blogs. I have decided for now to keep mine ad-free. I do not get paid to advertise or promote products. So when I mention a particular ingredient or took, it is my own belief behind it and therefore, a genuine recommendation.

The time and cost involved in running this blog is considerable. To help me keep it ad-free, and to respond to those who have kindly asked to contribute to my blog financially, I have set up a PayPal account where you can make a donation that will go towards the running of CarolinesFamilyKitchen, keeping it ad-free. Thank you!
